2nd MC3 Conference

Welcome message

Conference Chair

Prof. Ippei MARUYAMA

(the University of Tokyo)

Achieving carbon neutrality in the cement and concrete sector is one of the most pressing challenges facing our society today. While the cement and concrete industries are deeply rooted in the geological resources and regional economies of each country, the scientific and engineering challenges associated with producing concrete from cement are inherently global. Japan is no exception.

Following the success of the 1st MC3 Conference held in Aachen, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2nd MC3 Conference at the University of Tokyo. This conference provides a timely opportunity for researchers, engineers, and industrial stakeholders from around the world to engage in in-depth discussions on mineralization, one of the most important emerging topics for achieving carbon neutrality in the cement industry. We are particularly pleased to welcome participants from across Japan, including colleagues from academia and industry, and we look forward to fruitful discussions among all attendees.

As with the first MC3 Conference, this meeting will be conducted in a single-session format. This structure has been intentionally adopted to ensure that all participants can share the same scientific discussions and to encourage deeper and more focused exchanges on the key issues. We also hope that the coffee breaks and poster sessions will provide valuable opportunities for networking, fostering new collaborations, and building lasting professional relationships.

This conference is organized by the Japan Concrete Institute (JCI) with the generous support of RILEM and the American Concrete Institute (ACI). We sincerely appreciate their endorsement and continued encouragement. We also gratefully acknowledge the generous support of Japanese research consortia and industrial partners with a strong interest in mineralization technologies. Their contributions have made this conference possible.

Finally, I sincerely hope that your time at the conference will be both scientifically rewarding and personally enjoyable. May you have stimulating discussions, establish new collaborations, and also take the opportunity to experience the vibrant city of Tokyo.

We look forward to welcoming you to the University of Tokyo and wish you an inspiring and memorable stay.
