Post-synthetic oligonucleotide modification of pyrimidine bases with fluorinated methyl groups

Peptide and nucleic acid drugs, classified as mid-size drugs, have emerged as promising modalities in drug discovery because they can target protein-protein interactions and mRNA, respectively, which have remained elusive for traditional small molecule drugs. These mid-size drugs exhibit high target specificity and functional diversity, offering the potential to access previously undruggable targets. Therefore, advances in materials and technologies for precise control over the structure and function of mid-size drugs are expected to drive future innovation in drug development.<br>This symposium, titled "Frontiers of mid-size drug discovery research – development of functional materials that contribute to mid-size drug discovery –", will present the latest findings on chemical approaches to accelerate mid-size drug discovery. The symposium will cover a broad range of topics, including molecular design, synthetic chemistry, and functional control. With growing attention from both academia and industry, we hope this symposium will offer an opportunity to provide a comprehensive overview of the current status and future perspectives of mid-size drug discovery through a diverse array of research spanning from basic science to practical applications.
