[English Session]
Drug discovery is an academic endeavor driven by the integration of diverse scientific disciplines. Among them, organic chemistry—enabling the rational design, synthesis control of bioactive and biologically relevant molecules, as well as elucidating their functions and applications—constitutes a fundamental pillar of pharmaceutical research. "Frontiers in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry 2026" is an international symposium jointly organized by the Divisions of Organic Chemical and Medicinal Chemistry of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan. The symposium will highlight cutting-edge research in synthetic and medicinal chemistry and will feature three invited speakers—one from overseas and two from Japan. It will provide a platform to revisit the importance of both synthetic and naturally derived organic compounds and to explore emerging frontiers in chemistry, including the development of novel reactions, the creation of unprecedented molecules, and progress in chemical biology. The meeting aims to stimulate innovative research toward next-generation small- to medium-molecule pharmaceuticals, while fostering international collaboration and nurturing early-career scientists. By bringing together leading researchers from Japan and abroad, the symposium seeks to advance and inspire pharmaceutical science grounded in organic chemistry.
