Third-party evaluation of pharmaceutical education commenced in fiscal year 2012. Faculties of pharmacy and pharmaceutical universities undergo evaluation by the Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation Organization every seven years. The third phase of third-party evaluation of pharmaceutical education will begin in fiscal year 2027. The Pharmaceutical Education Evaluation Organization began revising the Phase 3 evaluation criteria in fiscal year 2023. Reflecting the intent of the revised Model Core Curriculum for Pharmaceutical Education adopted in 2022, the Third-Party Evaluation aims to ensure the quality of degree programs within the six-year pharmaceutical education system. Therefore, the focus is on the effectiveness of internal quality assurance, where universities themselves conduct self-assessment and evaluation of their pharmacy education programs and implement improvements based on the results. This symposium will introduce the significance of quality assurance demanded today, a review of past evaluations, and an overview of the Phase 3 evaluation criteria.
