This symposium, "Considering the Improvement of Japan's Drug Discovery Capabilities," will examine the current state of Japan's drug discovery capabilities and discuss various strategies for strengthening them in the future. In recent years, Japan's drug discovery field has been criticized for its declining competitiveness on the global stage, and the country faces a variety of challenges, including bridging basic research to clinical application, industry-academia-government collaboration, human resource development, and research investment. This symposium will welcome Dr. Ryozo Nagai (President of Jichi Medical University), Dr. Masahiro Tsuji (JST CRDS Fellow), and Dr. Hirosato Kondo (Special Advisor to the President of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition), who will analyze the current situation and future directions from their respective expert perspectives. We hope to create a forum for forming effective recommendations and a common understanding toward revitalizing Japan's drug discovery capabilities.
