概要
This session explores the future of university internationalization by looking beyond the initial acceptance of international students and researchers. It focuses on how post-arrival living support can be connected to local retention, career development, entrepreneurship, and collaboration with local governments.
The session will feature speakers Sachiko Koga, Manager of the Educational Sales Department at Kandai Pensée Co., Ltd., affiliated with Kansai University, and Daiki Sato, Executive Officer at Tohoku University Knowledge Cast Co., Ltd., affiliated with Tohoku University.
Kandai Pensée will share practical perspectives on supporting international students and researchers through consultation desks, telephone consultation, telephone interpretation, and emergency contact support.
Tohoku University Knowledge Cast, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tohoku University, supports the commercialization of academic knowledge and student entrepreneurship, and is also involved in initiatives in Sendai that support international students and foreign residents in entrepreneurship and local engagement.
GTN will join the discussion as an external partner providing practical support for universities, research institutions, and local governments in areas such as living assistance, residence status consultation, housing, mobile communication, consultation services, and post-arrival support for international students and researchers, and will share the importance of creating an environment where they can begin their lives in Japan with peace of mind and focus on their learning, research, and career development. While Japanese language institutions are increasingly expected to demonstrate collaboration with local governments and related stakeholders as part of certification standards, universities are also facing a broader need to support international students and researchers not only through academic and enrollment management, but also through living support, career development, startup support, and local retention. Through this dialogue, the session will discuss how universities, university-affiliated companies, local governments, and private support providers can work together to help international students and researchers feel not only “I’m glad I chose this university,” but also “I want to stay, work, and take on new challenges in this region.”
