Abstract:
This symposium proposes a paradigm shift in how we view care work—not as a mere burden to be redistributed, but as a form of human richness to be shared and celebrated. Historically, care work has been marginalized as unpaid labor and feminized responsibility, often undervalued in both social policy and academic research environments.
By integrating insights from academic and business sides, the session will explore diverse care practices across home, community, institutions, and digital technologies. Beyond this, it will focus on how care as a research theme intersects with academic career trajectories—particularly for early-career and both female and male scholars—highlighting systemic barriers and institutional undervaluation.
This symposium seeks to redefine care not only as a public good but also as a meaningful axis around which to construct equitable academic recognition and sustainable research careers. By doing so, we aim to contribute to building a more just society and a more inclusive scholarly community.
