This organized session aims to contribute to addressing various challenges faced by developing countries by conducting empirical analyses using micro-level data at the household and individual levels. The session features case studies in health care and education development from Morocco, Micronesia, and Laos. The first presentation introduces an empirical analysis to investigate the satisfaction with schooling—an important factor in motivation—and to clarify its relationship with individual characteristics in Enipein Pah, Pohnpei, Micronesia. The study employs data collected using a questionnaire survey, which include the eight-item Intrinsic Satisfaction Classroom Scale (ISC), education, occupation, and personal background, for the empirical analysis. The second presentation evaluates the causal effects of RAMED (a medical insurance scheme targeting low-income population) in conjunction with road infrastructure on healthcare outcomes, specifically, out-of-pocket (OOP) health expenditure, service utilization, and facility choice in Morocco. The data used in this study were collected by JICA in 2011 and 2017. The third presentation analyzes patient satisfaction with healthcare services received at village health centers from the perspective of the risk and time preferences of both patients and medical staffs in Laos. The analysis draws on original survey data collected in 2023 via interviews on both demand and supply sides of healthcare and provides certain policy implications. In recent years, evidence-based policy making (EBPM) has become a global trend in addressing poverty, and researchers worldwide have been working to build a strong body of evidence to address poverty alleviation. Through empirical analyses using micro-level data collected in each country under study, this organized session seeks to derive valuable policy insights that can contribute to achieving development policy goals.
