Miniaturized, tunable, on-chip lasers are essential for the development of photonic integrated circuits. However, microlasers with active semiconductor cores face challenges related to design flexibility and the need for precision in fabrication. In this study, to simplify fabrication and provide flexible gain choices, we propose a hybrid-cavity design that combines SiN microring with active polymeric cladding. Although the broad distribution of the active cladding introduces complexity to the mode, we demonstrate the generation and selection of radial modes through grating diffraction at the inner active cladding. The radial mode is partly coupled with whispering gallery modes propagating in the microring. Our results show the successful fabrication of active cladding grating-integrated microring lasers and the mechanism of radial modes generation and selection.
