Power scaling in current LIGO (Laser Interferometric Gravitational Observatory) configuration is limited by thermal lensing in the test masses. We propose to use mid-IR, 3.6 μm fibre laser reflected off a spatial light modulator to counteract the distortion. We will offer a brief summary of the present status of mid-IR fibre lasers in the 3.6 μm band, followed by a presentation of our most recent design parameters and outcomes related to the LIGO project.
