The ultrafast response of silica glass under the irradiation of a shot of double-pulse femtosecond laser is studied. It indicates that the excitations induced by the first pulse have a temporal effect on the propagation and absorption of the second pulse. More electrons can be excited while using appropriate inter-pulse delay, which contributes to efficient internal modifications. The results are helpful for understanding the laser absorption into the excited electrons, as well as the microprocessing applications in integrated photonics.
