Photonic and plasmonic systems that support topological edge states provide a new approach to tailor the optical response of nanostructures. The Su-Schrieffer-Heege (SSH) model is an emblematic example that describes the existence of topological edge states in arrays of resonators with periodic modulation of the coupling strength between the resonators.
In this work, we investigate the emergence of plasmonic edge states in multimer nanostructures composed of gold nanorods coupled around a central nanogap. By introducing a periodic modulation of the coupling between adjacent nanorods, edge states can be created and excited by under normal incidence. Especially, our results show how the introduction of edge states in multimer nanostructures offers a new approach to design plasmonic nanostructures with tailored chiral response.
