An atmospheric-pressure DC gas discharge was generated stably using a back-illuminated gold photocathode with an excimer lamp of wavelength 172 nm and 222 nm in ambient air. Production of the reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) from air plasma was confirmed by measuring the UV absorbance of those dissolved in water. The plasma induced by the excimer lamp of 172 nm, produced O3, H2O2 and NO3- as the dominant reactive species. In contrast, the plasma induced by the excimer lamp of 222 nm, generated nearly pure NO2- as the reactive species.
