In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a waveguide and a cavity in a two-layered SiC photonic crystal with a complete bandgap. The cavity is formed by a line defect consisting of 49 rods in a rod-type two-dimensional (2-D) PC layer, and the waveguide is formed by missing air holes in a hole-type 2-D PC layer. A high transmission of the waveguide is experimentally observed at wavelengths from 1526 to 1575 nm only for TE input light. It is theoretically confirmed that the waveguide has a single propagation mode with TE-like polarization at wavelengths from 1522 to 1575 nm, which agrees well with the experimental result. Moreover, a resonant spectrum was measured by using evanescent optical coupling between the waveguide and the cavity, and six Fabry-Pérot (FP) modes with various Q factors from 1.5×103 to 1.7×104 are observed. According to our FDTD simulation, the measured FP modes originate from a TM-like mode of a rod-based line defect forming the cavity. Details will be presented at the conference.
