BiPO4 with the ratio of Bi2O3 to P2O5 of 1:1 is known for its poor glass-forming ability and it has been a huge challenge to form bismuth phosphate glass through melting method. It has been reported than tin silicate glasses that are difficult to vitrify can be synthesized by the mechano-chemical method (MC method). From here, mechano-chemical method (MC method) can be seen as a new approach to overcome this challenge. At the early stage of this research, we synthesized BiPO4 through the MC method for 10 h but it did not completely amorphized. Through the substitution of Fe2O3 most of the M1 phase was amorphized at x=0.15 for the heat-treated FexBi1-xPO4(x=0.15) sample. We observed that the substitution of Fe2O3 dramatically accelerated the amorphization of BiPO4 within 1h. Hence, the sythesization of BiPO4 with the substitution of Fe2O3 through MC method can be a new alternative for the formation of bismuth phosphate glasses.
