YIG sphere、magnon photon coupling

Magnon-photon coupling has been an attractive phenomenon for the application of magnon to quantum information processing. Whereas Y3Fe5O12 (YIG) sphere is an optimal material for magnon-photon coupling, the range of applications of YIG spheres has been limited because of difficulty in controlling magnons. Here, we expect a tunable magnon-photon coupling system by modulating magnon damping depending on the angle between a metallic band on a YIG sphere and a external static magnetic field. The cylindrical TiO2 (rutile) resonator with resonance frequency of 2.6 GHz was fixed to a sapphire substrate and placed in the Cu shield. A static magnetic field was applied vertically. The circular coil connected to port 1 of vector network analyzer (VNA) was placed near the sapphire substrate and the YIG sphere with a Pt band was inserted into the resonator. We measured S11 of VNA with sweeping the static magnetic field in two different angles of the Pt band. As a result, changes in the coupled system from the strong coupling regime to the weak coupling regime were observed depending on the angle between the Pt band and the external magnetic field.
