A thermophotovoltaic (TPV) system is a kind of power-generating system that converts thermal energy into electrical energy via photons. In practical applications, multiple TPV cells are often arrayed together. However, it’s difficult to position the PV cell array too close to the emitter, and the photon recycling can be achieved by high-reflectance cells and well confined cavity. Therefore, the design of an optical cavity that enables efficient photon transport from the emitter to the cells is of crucial importance. In this research, ray-trace simulations were conducted to analyze the influences of various parameters in optical cavity. Based on the simulation results, the optimal cavity was obtained, with a hexagon straight cavity, a cylinder emitter, Rcavity wall =0.95, the normalized length of cavity L=20. And an optimal area ratio of 1 was identified, emphasizing that reducing cell area to save costs would inevitably result in a reduction in system efficiency.
