The anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) is one of the thermoelectric conversion phenomena commonly observed in ferromagnets. A characteristic of this effect is that the direction of the electric field generated by thermoelectric conversion is perpendicular to the temperature gradient. For realizing ANE devices, it is a large issue to enhance ANE. Therefore, we focused on the interface in nanostructure, and investigated how ANE is affected in Co-based nanostructures.
We prepared Co-based maze-like structures thin films with large interfaces by a vapor-phase dealloying. In maze-like Co thin films, ANE increased as perimeter increased and reached up to 1.2 μV/K. We also analyzed the scaling relation between longitudinal and transverse conductivity. In samples large interface, transverse conductivity decreases as longitudinal conductivity increases, which differs from a conventional tendency. These results suggest that ANE scattering mechanism is strongly tuned by increasing interfaces of Co.
