Recent research has shown that awe facilitates not only self-oriented but also other-oriented behaviors. Thus, exploring whether and how awe experienced in the context of sports can positively influence individuals' extra-role behaviors across various life domains is particularly meaningful. If such a spillover effect exists, professional sports organizations may enhance business outcomes and contribute to broader social benefits. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between awe and sports fans’ pro-environmental behavior. Specifically, the study examined the direct effect of awe on pro-environmental behavior among sports fans, drawing on the social functional approach to emotion. Data were collected from 219 fans attending professional sports events. The results suggest that awe was positively associated with behavioral intentions related to self-improvement spending and pro-environmental spending. However, no significant effect was found for awe on behavioral intentions concerning time devoted to self-improvement and pro-environmental activities. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
