JAEA has developed MIDOA and NTAamide having N donor and TDGA having S donor atom, and a masking agent, DTBA, which is improved analogue of commercially available DTPA used in TALSPEAK method. These reagents are promising to obtain high An/Ln separation, and therefore we compare their properties of An/Ln separation. MIDOA and NTAamide, which have tertiary amino-N donor atom, show the steric hindrance by protonation in acidic condition. Thus, these extractants show high extractability at low concentration of HNO3 and pH region. TDGA having soft S donor atom shows lower affinity with Ln and An than MIDOA and NTAamide. Although DTBA shows higher solubility in water and stability in complex formation with Ln and An than DTPA, its use is limited in 0 < pH < 2. Considering the condition of actual application, the combination of TODGA in organic phase and DTBA in aqueous phase shows greatly high separation factor, 8.3, for An/Ln.
