[W-13]An exploratory study of Kosen students’ motivational characteristics and English learning outcomes

This presentation explores the relationship between Kosen students’ motivational characteristics and their English (L2) learning outcomes regarding the L2 self-concept. Data from a questionnaire and proficiency test indicated that while professional future self-images as an engineer generally correlated with higher test scores, obligation-based future L2 selves and the classroom atmosphere were more strongly linked to positive learning outcomes among lower-attaining students. The session discusses possible pedagogical interventions regarding these findings.
