The magnetic anisotropy of thin Ni films grown on Cu(100) is known to be thickness-dependent, leading to a reorientation of the easy axis of magnetization. It is hypothesized that this change in magnetic direction influences the surface's chemical properties, such as the adsorption probability of hydrogen atoms. To investigate this effect, the preparation of well-defined Ni/Cu(100) samples is essential. This study, therefore, focuses on establishing a reliable method for the epitaxial growth of Ni/Cu(100) heterostructures on a SrTiO3(100) substrate and evaluating the resulting film quality.
