[S19☆]Frontiers of Basic Research Supporting a Long-Lived Society: Challenges in Neurological Disorders

Fri. Mar 27, 2026 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM JST
Fri. Mar 27, 2026 6:30 AM - 8:30 AM UTC
Room 04 (E301, Bldg. 3, Area 2 [3F])
Organizer: Mamoru Fukuchi (Fac. Pharm., Takasaki Univ. Hlth. Welfare), Michiko Shirane (Grad. Sch. Pharm. Sci., Nagoya City Univ.)
With the arrival of the era of 100-year lifespans, extending healthy life expectancy has become a major social challenge. Among age-related diseases, neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease are of particular concern, as their complex and progressive nature has hindered the development of effective treatments. Overcoming these challenges requires multifaceted and cutting-edge basic research that deepens our understanding of disease mechanisms and informs the development of new therapeutic strategies. This symposium brings together researchers who are addressing neurodegenerative diseases from the standpoint of fundamental neuroscience. By sharing recent findings, we aim to highlight how these studies contribute to the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of age-related disorders. Through interdisciplinary discussion, the symposium seeks to foster new ideas and research directions that will drive the creation of innovative medicine and healthcare systems for an era of longevity. Ultimately, we hope this gathering will serve as a platform to share the frontiers of basic research that underpin a sustainable, healthy, and fulfilling society for all generations.
