Pharmacy education in Japan faces increasing demands due to population aging and growing diversity in regional healthcare. To address these needs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) conducted a nationwide call in 2023 and selected four programs for support, aiming to advance pharmacy education tailored to underserved areas. These programs have implemented diverse approaches, including digital transformation (DX) in remote or disaster-affected communities, advanced experiential training in pharmacist-shortage regions, the incorporation of problem-based learning (PBL), and strengthened collaboration with local governments. In September 2025, participating students and faculty gathered to share insights and propose a vision for ideal pharmacy education that meets regional healthcare needs. This symposium introduces key initiatives from these programs and explores practical and educational implications from both student and educator perspectives, with the goal of shaping a sustainable model for regional healthcare education in the field of pharmaceutical sciences.
