The intrinsic Gilbert damping constant in magnetic multilayers represents the dynamic behavior of ferromagnetic materials. In this study, we systematically investigate the anisotropy of the Gilbert damping in the V/Fe/MgO system, focusing on its dependence on the out-of-plane magnetization direction. We have fabricated the V (8 nm)/Fe (0.6-1.2 nm)/MgO (0.5 nm) multilayers by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized the intrinsic Gilbert damping by the time-resoved magneto-optic Kerr effect. We found that the Gilbert damping increases when the direction of the magnetic field angle is changed from in-plane to out-of-plane. We have also conducted a first principles calculation and compared with the experimental results. Specifically, bulk and interfacial effects on the anisotropic Gilbert damping will be discussed.
