Despite the advantages of anomalous Nernst effect (ANE)-based thermoelectric technologies, the need for external magnetic fields in most ANE materials hinders real-world applications. Developing permanent magnet ANE materials is a key solution. In this presentation, we will present our pivotal finding: the coexistence of large in-plane and out-of-plane coercivities (exceeding 1 T) with excellent ANE performance in strategically chosen Pt-Co-Ni-based alloy thin films. We will show that these alloys present an exceptional balance of ANE, coercivity, and remanence, positioning them among the best reported thin-film-based thermoelectric permanent magnets to date. This unique combination makes them potential candidates for magnetic-field-free ANE applications, such as heat-flux sensing. Furthermore, we will demonstrate unique single-material-based thermopile design strategies for heat-flux sensing, leveraging the unique functionality of these newly discovered materials. We believe our study will provide a pathway to efficient and sustainable ANE-based thermoelectric technologies.
