Lead-free rudorffite materials like AgBiI4 are promising alternatives to conventional lead-based perovskites, offering improved environmental safety and stability. However, their solar conversion efficiency remains suboptimal. In this study, we demonstrate the impact of NaI as an alkali halide additive to enhance the performance of AgBiI4-based solar cells. The NaI additive facilitates better crystallization, yielding compact, pinhole-free films and reducing Bi0-related surface defects. Devices incorporating NaI exhibited a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.72%, among the highest reported for rudorffite-based photovoltaics. Photoluminescence analysis further confirmed improved optoelectronic properties and stability. These findings underscore the effectiveness of additive engineering for advancing lead-free solar technologies.
