Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond are promising candidates for quantum optical technologies. For applications such as quantum communication and networked quantum systems, achieving high photon extraction efficiency from individual NV centers is crucial. However, when embedded in bulk diamond, the efficiency is limited by total internal reflection at the diamond–air interface. To address this limitation, photonic nanostructures such as solid immersion lenses and nanowires, fabricated on the diamond surface, have been investigated. However, nanostructuring diamond remains a significant challenge. Alternatively, heterogenous integration techniques allow the use of more advanced photonic nanostructures for this purpose. For instance, a SiN circular grating placed on bulk diamond can be applicable. In this work, we designed a SiN bull’s-eye structure that enhances photon extraction efficiency by a factor of 2.64 compared to bulk diamond, and by 1.6 compared to a simple circular grating.
