Purpose: The Fifth Basic Plan for the Promotion of Education has indicated the concept of 'improving wellbeing rooted in Japanese society' as a concept for future education. It is also widely recognized that the ultimate goal of science and technology is wellbeing. What, then, should be the role of education and research on wellbeing in higher education, especially in engineering education?
