Welcome Message

Takaji Wakita, M.D., Ph.D.
Chairperson, The 73rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Virology
(Vice President, Japan Institute for Health Security)
It is my great honor to host the 73rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Virology in 2026.
The theme of this year’s meeting is:
“Global Virology 2026: Deep Science for Emerging Threats.”
Emerging and re-emerging viral infections continue to challenge humanity. The COVID-19 pandemic, along with ongoing outbreaks around the world, has underscored the profound impact of viruses on global health, society, and the economy. These experiences have also reminded us that strong basic science, global perspectives, and interdisciplinary collaboration are essential to confront future threats.
For this meeting, we aim to welcome not only distinguished leading scientists but also promising young researchers from overseas. By bringing together experts and early-career scientists across generations and regions, we hope to create a truly international platform for sharing cutting-edge knowledge, exchanging ideas, and building future collaborations.
We also intend to provide Japanese young researchers with valuable opportunities to engage directly with colleagues from around the world. Nurturing the next generation through active international exchange is a key goal of this meeting, and we believe it will help pave the way for the future of virology.
I warmly invite you to join us in Tokyo for inspiring discussions and collaborations at this exciting scientific gathering.
