This study presents the design and evaluation of a hybrid extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL) that combines a sinusoidal diffractive posterior surface with a freeform aspheric anterior surface. Using the Liou & Brennan eye model and a custom hydrogel material, we performed optical simulations and modulation transfer function (MTF) measurements to assess its imaging performance. The proposed design achieved high image contrast across far, intermediate, and near object distances, with the most significant improvement at the intermediate range compared to a commercial trifocal IOL. The lens also demonstrated effective control of spherical and chromatic aberrations. These results confirm the clinical potential of the hybrid EDOF IOL for improved postoperative vision and reduced visual disturbances.
