Since hydroxyapatite (HAp) is pivotal in the formation of bones, comprehending its crystal mineralization and phase transitions is crucial in bone remodeling research. It is understood that dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), an unstable precursor of HAp, undergoes rapid transformation into either octacalcium phosphate (OCP) or HAp initially, with OCP eventually transitioning into HAp. In this research, the far-infrared/terahertz absorption properties of synthetic forms of the main calcium phosphates involved in bone mineralization have been investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Based on the completely different DCPD spectrogram from HAp and OCP and a unique peak of HAp at 2.9 and 11.2 THz, it is possible to determine the phase stage to which a DCPD sample that has been heated for different times has now been transformed.
