Cavity ring-down laser spectroscopy (CRDS) provides a highly sensitive method for detection of elements and even individual isotopes in gas samples. In this study, we investigated a method for acquiring decay rate (called the "ring-down rate") of the transmitted light intensity through a high-finesse optical cavity by using a simplified measurement system. We demonstrated the concept of determining the ringdown decay rate based on a discrete recording and processing of two or more static or dynamic threshold timing signals.
