Transverse thermoelectric effects have been intensively studied and classified into several mechanisms. The ordinary/anomalous Nernst effects driven by a magnetic field/spontaneous magnetization are commonly known. Meanwhile, in artificially tilted multilayers, where two thermoelectric materials are alternately and obliquely stacked, the structural anisotropy induces a transverse thermoelectric conversion known as the off-diagonal Seebeck effect. Recently, hybridization of these multiple transverse thermoelectric effects in artificially tilted multilayers has been demonstrated as a promising approach for the realization of a giant transverse thermoelectric conversion. However, there still remain a problem that the superposition of the anomalous Nernst effect requires the application of magnetic fields.
Here, we demonstrate the zero-field hybridization of the off-diagonal Seebeck and anomalous Nernst effects towards high-performance transverse thermoelectric permanent magnets.
