[PB-54] A comparative cultural analysis of color in picture book covers in Japan and Australia.

This study examines the cultural differences in illustration styles on picture book covers in Japan and Australia. While previous intercultural studies have primarily focused on visual media such as manga, animation, advertising, and fine art, picture books have been relatively understudied in intercultural illustration research. Recognizing this gap in research, this study uses exploratory data analysis to analyze the formal visual characteristics of picture book covers in Japan and Australia. Specifically, by computationally extracting brightness, saturation, and hue values from each image and visualizing them as a scatter plot, the study clarifies the distribution and clustering trends between cultures.
