Blessed with abundant natural beauty, including mountains and rivers, Japan is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Over the centuries, a unique culture has developed that embraces these natural elements and integrates them into daily life.
To celebrate the return of the International Horticultural Exposition to Japan in 2027—its first time in 37 years—a series of symposia is being held. These events explore the Japanese perspective on nature, which treasures flowers and greenery as reflections of the human spirit.
“Green Growth Strategies,” aimed at addressing issues such as extreme weather and biodiversity loss, incorporate a range of elements including civil engineering, agriculture, and housing. In this third symposium, we will explore these elements in depth and propose a vision for a sustainable future—one that includes rainwater utilization, urban greening, and the effective use of food and timber resources.
