Geopolymers (GP) have emerged as promising materials for immobilizing heavy metal ions due to their unique structural properties. Phosphoric acid-activated geopolymers (PGP) have demonstrated success in immobilizing anions, offering an alternative to traditional geopolymers. However, evaluations of their effectiveness in simultaneously immobilizing both anions and cations remain limited. In this study, leaching experiments confirmed that PGP exhibits the capacity to immobilize both anions and cations effectively, and its structure remains stable. Zeta potential measurements revealed values ranging from positive to negative, indicating its versatile binding capabilities. Furthermore, binding experiments and zeta potential analyses of PGP in various solutions were conducted to investigate the underlying immobilization mechanisms. These insights underscore the suitability of PGP for long-term waste containment applications.
