[3C12]Validation of a Two-Phase Lattice Boltzmann Method with Local Mesh Refinement for Gas Entrainment Simulation in Fast Reactors

Gas entrainment caused by free-surface vortices is a significant challenge in fast reactor design, as it can impact safety and efficiency. Numerical simulations are essential for addressing this issue, but conventional methods often lack the required efficiency and accuracy. To tackle these limitations, this study explores the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), renowned for its computational efficiency and ability to model complex flow phenomena. We develop and validate a two-phase LBM enhanced with local mesh refinement (LMR) to improve simulation accuracy while drastically reducing computational time. The results strongly agree with experimental data, demonstrating the method’s potential for efficient and reliable gas entrainment analysis in future fast reactor designs.
