Previously, our group reported that tetrabutylammonium ion (TBA+) incorporated Ta-Nb hetero-POMs, TBA6H2[Ta1Nb5O19], showed higher styrene carbonate selectivity than TBA6H2[Ta6O19] and TBA6H2[Nb6O19] in the CO2 fixation reaction to styrene oxide. In the report, the microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis of TBA6H2[Ta1Nb5O19] required three-step synthesis, calcination of Nb2O5 and Ta2O5 to form Na3MO4 (M = Ta and Nb), acidification to form hydrated M2O5, and the hydrothermal treatment. In this study, we developed and optimized the modified synthesis of TBA6H2[Ta1Nb5O19] via the hydrated Ta-Nb mixed oxide which reduced nearly half the process while yielding a catalyst with an equivalently high activity.
