9,10-Diphenylanthracene (DPA) is a blue emitting material widely used in organic devices and functional systems such as OLED and triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) photon upconversion (UC). Particularly in TTA-UC, DPA is the most common annihilator/emitter in the red-to-blue conversion. We have opened the field of solid TTA-UC materials fabricated by solution casting of DPA and its derivatives.
In this work we focus on the crystal polymorphism of DPA to understand different emission colors observed from different regions of DPA cast films from a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution. We found that the aging time between dissolving and casting DPA is a key factor for the selective formation of one or anotyher DPA polymorph. This control of the DPA structure fabrication allows us to chose the desired emission color for device aplication.
