As China advances economically and technologically, along with improvements in medical care, it has entered an aging society. Consequently, how to enhance the physical health of the elderly has become a significant social issue in our country's development. Statistics reveal that the primary cause of falling over affecting the quality of life of the elderly is the decline in lower limb strength. To address this issue, we developed a self-weight load strength training program based on the Japanese "muscle storage exercise." This regimen focuses on strengthening the abdominal muscles of the body. The objective is to reinforce lower limb muscle strength and improve the physical function of the elderly. In this study, 20 participants aged 65-75 were divided into two groups: an intervention group and a control group. Both groups underwent self-weight load strength training five times a week for 60 minutes per session, over a period of 12 weeks. Prior to and one week after the intervention, all experimental subjects were tested on various physical indices. These included body shape indicators (height, weight, body mass index (BMI), physical function indicators (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate, vital capacity), and physical fitness indicators (selective response time, grip strength, time length of stand on one foot with eyes closed, time length of sit and stand on the chair for 10 times, three-position balance test, knee extension force, etc.). After 12 weeks of training, we observed that the elderly in the exercise intervention group demonstrated significant improvements in their physical function compared to the control group in terms of vital capacity, selective response time, three-pose balance ability and other abilities. This indicates that the regimen can exercise the lower limb muscle strength, and body balance ability, therefore reducing the chance of falling over. This is a set of safe, strengthening and highly targeted lower limb strength exercise prescription. We hope that through the development and advertisement of this prescription, the importance of exercise to maintain physical health can be well acknowledged and popularised among the elderly, so as to strengthen the awareness of self-exercise in order to serve the elderly’s daily life in a better quality.
