72nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology |
My name is Hiroshi Nabetani from Tokyo Kasei University, and I have been asked to serve as the president of the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest regards to you. On behalf of the conference organizing committee, I would like to take this opportunity to extend a few words.
The 70th Congress of the Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology , which had to be canceled or held online due to the effects of the coronavirus infection, was able to resume face-to-face meetings for the first time in four years at the 70th Congress the year before last (Hajime Hatta, President, Kyoto Women's University). However, last year's conference (Meijo University, President Toshiya Hayashi) was unfortunately forced to abandon the face-to-face meeting due to a typhoon. We understand the disappointment of the president and the executive committee members who had been working on the preparations until the last minute. This year's 72nd Annual Meeting will be the first time in two years that the meeting will be held face-to-face.
This will be the first time in three years that the Kanto Section has been in charge of an online conference since the 69th (Tokyo University of Agriculture, Prof. Sayuri Akuzawa, President), and the first face-to-face conference in eight years since the 64th (Nihon University, Prof. Fumio Takenaga, President).
Like the 64th Convention, this year's meeting will be held at Nihon University's Shonan Campus for three days from August 27 (Wed.) to 29 (Fri.). Some of you may be concerned because the venue is not the organization where the president of the association is based, but rest assured that preparations are underway with an executive committee headed by Prof. Hiroshi Matsufuji (Nihon University) as vice president and executive committee chair.
Looking at the world situation, in addition to the lack of improvement in the situation in Ukraine, there continues to be great turmoil in the world, such as the ongoing battle between the Israeli military and the Islamic organization Hamas. In addition, with the change of administration from President Biden to President Trump, the growing influence of China, and the rapid development of AI, society is undergoing major changes, making it very difficult to predict the future. However, what we can say without a doubt is that “the most important things in people's lives are food and health. It is a matter of course, but it is also a matter of course for human beings. As a matter of course, we cannot live healthy lives without food. We cannot feel joy. There is no doubt that the importance of this society, which deals with science and technology related to food, will continue to grow in the future.
The exchange of the latest information on food science and technology and the exchange of researchers and technicians at this conference is an extremely important event that will contribute to the sustainable development of humankind in the future.
The venue of the conference, Nihon University College of Bioresource Sciences (Shonan Campus), is located near the sea in Shonan, and we are blessed with the conditions to enjoy sightseeing in Enoshima and Kamakura in the after-five hours. However, the event will be held during a very hot season, so we would like to ask you to please attend the event in cool biz.
Finally, we look forward to your participation in the 72nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Food Science and Technology and the Academic Exchange Conference, and hope that the conference will provide a meaningful and fruitful opportunity for researchers and engineers from industry, government, and academia, especially young researchers who will lead the next generation, to interact with each other.
