Controlling the Oxygen/Metal ratio of MOX for fast reactors is paramount. The sintering conditions impose the oxygen stoichiometry, and more precisely, the reduction of MOX is governed by oxygen diffusion. Using an innovative thermogravimetric process, we have collected new oxygen chemical diffusion data in hypo-stoichiometric MOX (30% Pu) at elevated temperatures. The results show that oxygen chemical diffusion is thus maximum near O/M=2 and decreases with the increasing deviation from stoichiometry, i.e. reduction becomes more and more difficult when the O/M ratio of MOX decreases.
