Organized Session 1:
Quality Management for Environmental DNA: From Operational Manuals to Certification and Standards
Organizer : Technical Standardization Committee, The eDNA Society
As the applications of environmental DNA (eDNA) continue to expand, the reagents, instruments, and analytical workflows used in eDNA surveys have become increasingly diverse. At the same time, the number of organizations and companies conducting eDNA analyses has grown substantially, creating a pressing need to ensure the reliability and comparability of analytical results. This session will review current practices in quality management for analytical methods, including eDNA, with reference to international examples and recent initiatives led by industry. It will also introduce the latest developments in ISO standardization related to eDNA and discuss their potential implications for industry, together with the associated challenges. Finally, considering ongoing activities within The eDNA Society, the session will discuss future priorities for the Society and explore how quality management, certification, and standardization can support the broader social implementation of eDNA technologies.

Organized Session 2:
Decision-Ready Biodiversity Information: Towards a Nature Information Society
Organizer : Michio KONDOH (Tohoku University)
Environmental DNA (eDNA) is expected to evolve from a technology for observing biodiversity into an information infrastructure that supports societal decision-making. Achieving this transformation requires more than simply accumulating observation data. Such data must be developed into Decision-Ready Biodiversity Information that can be effectively used by governments, businesses, and local communities. In recent years, ANEMONE has advanced the assessment of nature-related value through collaboration with the Japan Blue Economy Association (JBE), while also working with BIOME and LIME3 to visualize, evaluate, and translate biodiversity information into practical applications. Drawing on these emerging initiatives, this session will discuss the mechanisms and partnerships needed to transform nature information into societal value and connect it to decision-making by governments, businesses, and local communities. It will explore pathways toward a Nature Information Society built around environmental DNA.
