FAIRe: Guidelines and Hands-on Workshop towards FAIR eDNA data

The FAIR eDNA (FAIRe) project is an international, community-driven initiative aiming to make environmental DNA (eDNA) data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
In this workshop, we will first introduce the FAIRe initiative and provide an overview of the FAIRe guidelines. We will then move to a hands-on session, where participants will learn how to create a data template, populate metadata, and validate them.

  • Researchers working with eDNA, or anyone interested in managing, sharing, or using eDNA data
  • Anyone who would like to learn about metadata standardisation and the FAIR principles for eDNA data
  • Anyone who would like to organise their own eDNA data in a way that makes it easier to share, find, and reuse in the future

◎Registration Fees and Registration

  • Anyone is welcome to attend free of charge, regardless of membership status.
  • Capacity : 20 participants (first come, first served). 
    Once the workshop reaches its capacity of 20 participants, additional registrations will be placed on a waiting list.
  • If you would like to attend, please register using the form below.
  • Participants are requested to bring their own laptop. If possible, please install R and RStudio in advance.

 

◎Additional information

  • R will be used to create a custom template, but the workshop will introduce the basic operations step by step, so no prior programming experience in R is required.
  • A default template will also be provided in case you have difficulty creating a custom template during the workshop. You can therefore participate in the workshop without using the R-based customisation features.
  • Sample data will be provided for the hands-on activities, so you do not need to prepare your own eDNA data.
  • The workshop will be conducted in Japanese while Q&A can be addressed in both Japanese and English. Many of the FAIRe guidelines and related resources are currently available only in English. We plan to continue developing and providing Japanese translations and resources in the future.
