Modular control of gametogenesis: evolution of reproductive diversity in fish

Co-hosted by:Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A), Dynamic reproductive lifespan<br />Sex differentiation is a fundamental biological process that underpins reproduction and species diversity across the plant and animal kingdoms. Despite its universal importance, the mechanisms and evolutionary trajectories of sex differentiation vary dramatically among species, reflecting a wide array of developmental, genetic, epigenetic, and environmental influences. In recent years, advances in molecular biology, genomics, and imaging technologies have deepened our understanding of sex determination and differentiation across diverse species, not only commonly used model organisms but also non-model organisms. This symposium aims to bring together researchers working on sex differentiation in a broad range of organisms to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and share cutting-edge discoveries. By integrating perspectives from developmental biology, we hope to illuminate common principles and lineage-specific adaptations underlying sex differentiation.
